Er...we did this and there was an 'e' missing once before...
Is there a group to help find missing letters, torn from their Capitals before their time?

What is your most frequently told story, the one that people ask you to tell when you meet new people?

If I'm telling a story too often, I've fallen into the worst trap ever; failing to engage in my own life.
Give me blank sheets and new pens. Let's go.

Who is your favorite comic book character and why?
It depends on when you ask. When I first got into them, Rorschach was the character I dug the most. And like most, I went through my Wolverine phase, before he became ultrasaturiated (tho' I still call women 'darlin'' from time to time because of this.) It was easy to love Spider Jerusalem too, even though he was an asshole, ditto for Milk & Cheese but they were both funny. Somewhere in there I caught on to Daredevil, Nightcrawler, Jakarta, Buddy Baker. Walker and Pilgrim. Holden Carver. Yorik from Y the Last Man.
Though currently, I really love Guardians of the Galaxy and Matty Roth. I guess I read a lot of comics.

Tell us about your first concert
1989, September. Metallica was on their And Justice for All tour, and the Cult opened. Though riding somewhat high on the hit 'Fire Woman', nobody going to a Metallica show was there to see the Cult-and the audience's wall of almost aggressive indifference was easy to sense.
I was 17, late for my firsts for nearly everything; the next day would start my Senior year of high school and I was profoundly Uncool but I had discovered heavy metal. Maybe there was a place for me?
Yes and no. There were black jeans and black shirts and every article of clothing was torn in some manner, with Converse shoes and long hair on boys with half-realized mustaches...and girls. There were girls who liked heavy metal. It was a revelation; there might be girls who liked what I liked.
Even though I was tattoo-less. Even though I was in blue jeans and a white shirt and it was clear that my Mom had bought all my clothes and my hair, tho' sloppy, never touched my shoulders. Maybe there would be people (and girls, because I was 17 and hopefully lonely) who might let me be part of their group.
The kleig lights came up after the Cult left the stage, a haze was everywhere in the old Coliseum-cigarettes and pot, though I didn't know that at the time, either, the musty smell of heavy metal kids, the occasional creeper in a Sabbath T and buggy eyes, and general impatience.
This is pre-Black Album, understand; Metallica were kings of the metal world but had not fallen into Rock God excess. They were like us, only they'd made it, right?
And then, it all started. Lady Justice statue in the back, the theme from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly played, the lights go to black, crowd rises as one, on their feet and voices roaring for heroes...
I'd never seen anything like it. And it was SO FUCKING LOUD, but it was exactly like it was supposed to be; as if all previous hearings of Metallica were unholy because there just wasn't enough volume. They played my favorite song at the time, Master of Puppets and they played a whole bunch of songs I didn't know--but were brilliant. It was even better; there were more awesome songs for me to discover afterward! Everyone else knew the words....I just knew to jump around.
And the rules were simple; Scream as loud as you can. Mosh if you want to, but counter-clockwise. If anybody goes down you reach down, pick them up. NOBODY STAYS ON THE GROUND. These were your comrades in metal.
Then it ended. Except it didn't-I was unfamiliar with the Encore, which as was standard for many, many years, was Creeping Death.
I left high, I felt like I could raze the world but in a good way. Every concert I've gone to since has been in pursuit of that high--and a few, though not many--have managed it.
And I started my Senior hear with my ears ringing-which they did for a week, and is why I wore earplugs to every show after that.

Even the hippest among us secretly digs some song that's horribly embarrassing. What's yours?

I've mentioned it before, but after loving Andrew WK's I Get Wet (the album, the whole thing) it's really not worth being horribly embarrassed about loving something.

Your life in lyrics: What song speaks to you, and why?
Rarely a whole song sticks, but often certain lines will.
They frequently aren't very nice lines though and sometimes that troubles me. Especially when the one that comes to mind is Why don't you kill me? I'm weak and numb and insignificant from Tool's Undertow.
Although then I hear We'll be strong, you'll be dead from Rocket From The Crypt's Guilt Free, and that makes it somewhat better.

Tell us about your mother.

In many ways, Mom was meant to be a Grandma. That's a pretty good way to describe her, even before she became a Grandma. She holds me up in those dark days, welcomes any of my friends over like they've been there forever, and is generally pretty awesome.
